Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a Brand and Graphic Designer by profession, my professional experience includes working remotely for creative studios in Cape Town, Sandton, London, New York, Berlin and Riyadh.
I am also the founder of Studio Maduna. Studio Maduna is a South African design studio that is deeply rooted in cultural heritage and traditions, it specifically draws inspiration from Xhosa culture which is a significant part of my identity. I could go on about Studio Maduna but this ‘short bio’ would end up being a thesis.
Solange is my biggest inspiration, I love her versatility! She inspires me to be more experimental, not just with design but with the way I express myself creatively.
I would say my strength lies in creating simple yet impactful designs. I have a minimalistic design approach, focusing primarily on typography, hierarchy, and space. Once these key principles are mastered, the rest comes easily.
I would say my biggest career achievements include working remotely for agencies and studios worldwide. At just 23, I was working as a Brand and Graphic Designer in New York, Berlin, and London — something I never imagined achieving so early in my design career.
I wish the creative industry wasn’t so demanding. Nowadays, as a Graphic Designer, you’re expected to know motion design, video editing, 3D rendering, and so much more. It feels like we’re expected to have the skill set of an entire creative department, which is ridiculous.
