Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi! Norkor here – I’m a visual designer and documentary photographer. In my creative praxis, women are the protagonists. It’s very much girls rule, boys drool around these parts. Sorry, not sorry. As a designer, I enjoy working with women-led brands. It’s so cool to see and be a part of what the girlies are doing. In my photography practice, I document what I’m most curious about – the lives and stories of African women.
I’m inspired by SO many African women doing phenomenal things – chasing their dreams, showing up loudly and unapologetically, and doing life on their terms. Yagazie Emezi, Nigerian photojournalist, Golloria George, South Sudani beauty creator, Achieng Agutu, Kenyan lifestyle creator, Reverend Georgina Boateng, my favourite ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church, Christa Eduafo, Ghanaian-American DJ and all around It-Girl, Samuella Graham, Ghanaian fine artist (and my best friend lol) just to name a few. The girls are locked in and making things happen, and I’m obsessed.
I’d say my creative superpower is my attention to detail and eye for curation.
So far, I’d say being a Prince Claus Seed Fund Awardee and a Women Photograph Mentee in 2024 have been my biggest achievements. They were truly life- and career-changing experiences!
I wish there were more women in the design and photography industry. Sometimes it feels like a boys’ club, especially in Ghana. It’s giving “Where are the Ghanaian women designers and photographers?” I know we’re out there.
