Ghana

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a digital illustrator and engage in a side hustle as a graphic designer. I studied Architecture in the university but decided to pursue my passion in illustration. Since graduation, I have met wonderful people and been a part of communities within the creative space like Monday Design Co. and Girls in Animation. I love to draw comics as a hobby and that led me to start a webcomic on webtoons and also post some comics on my instagram page. I have really enjoyed my career journey and I hope to learn more along the way.

I am mostly inspired by a digital artist name Christina Lorre. She is a US based artist who draws mainly female figures just like me. I admire her because she does not just draw but she makes sure her works glorify God. She is passionate about her Christian faith. She has used her art to develop make up brands, digital drawing stamps and colouring books. She has reached the level of her art I wish to achieve for myself.

People who see my work tend to always mention how my facial expressions are drawn. They love how I am able to capture certain emotions and it is something I’m very proud of.

My greatest achievement is having been the first Ghanaian to be accepted into the Mollo Animation Studio and Academy in Johannesburg. I learnt so much about the importance of illustrators in the animation pipeline. I also learnt about the business of the creative industry, specifically animation.

I would want to encourage the change in how we incorporate our Ghanaian culture into our creative works. I would like us to move forward from just recreating past stories to adapting such stories into the modern times. Culture is dynamic and it is important to show that our culture is a part of that transformation era.
