Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hiiiii

I’m Bolu Zacch from Lagos, Nigeria. I am a creative designer who specializes in brand design with key interest in creative typography, colors, motion design and so on.

I work as a Brand strategist to help bridge the gap between brands and their customers. I’ve been designing for about 4 years now, and I recently graduated from the university of Lagos.

Hmm… no one really comes to mind right now, but through my design journey there have been people I really liked their work and thinking process.

For example Holke 79, he’s a Spanish motion designer i’ve followed on social media for a while, I really like his style of animation and the brutalist approach and how he teaches them. I wouldn’t really say I design or animate like he does especially for client work but I tend to go to his pages often.

In Nigeria, there’s a brand designer I really like her work. Her name is Celeste Ojatula, I saw her Brand identity case study for Hertitude 2022 and I liked it so much. I was inspired by her process and creative thinking and how she came up with everything.

“Women are only capable of feminine design styles.”

As a woman, you have to be twice as good to be considered for certain roles in the creative industry. The ratio of males to females in the industry is about 80 to 20 percent, not to talk of the pay gap too. Why? It’s perceived that a woman can’t just design as well as a man. Woman can be emphatic and emotional and it can show in our work at times but that’s not the wholesome look of it. I use saturated colors, and bright colors palette in my work especially passion projects but that doesn’t mean I can’t be flexible to design based on the project’s need.

I wouldn’t say I’ve had a really big one, but recently I got a 6-figure design gig.

If I could, I would change the way creative work is perceived. Quite a number of people think it’s a “hobby” or something you do to pass time and would use any opportunity to belittle creative work. I say and say over again that DESIGN MATTERS. In the world right now, as a business looking to build a strong brand, you cannot afford to have a terrible design system.
